WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE AT ST. JOSEPH'S?
Our motto—“LEARNING TO BE
ALL WE CAN BE”—means ongoing motivation
for excellence, reflected in our innovative methodologies and programs,
and our constant monitoring for success, both for the school as a whole
and for each individual student.
Some exciting plans for the future include:
- A major expansion of educational facilities adjoining our recently built student residence, Concordia House, to provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for our increasing number of students. The school is scheduled to open toward the end of this year!
- Closer links with New Jersey school
districts to further expand our intake, particularly
of students 3-4 years of age—to make sure that “no child
will be left behind.”
- Active involvement in expanding the
training of teachers of the disabled to become certified
in teaching visually impaired children and youths, and in increasing
the availability and competence of teacher aides.
- Extensive multi-lingual public information
and education programs for both the general public
and, more specifically, the parents of children with disabilities
to increase parental advocacy and networking and ensure full access
to, and use of, rights, entitlements, and special services.
- Creation of a Comprehensive Resource
Center with a wide range of hands-on adaptive technology,
aides and appliances, and invaluable self-help materials to supplement
school and other outside services.
