CELEBRATES
White Cane Day!
The celebration of WCD on October 15 is really about the white cane as a tool for independence. Moreover, it reflects the accomplishments of individuals who are blind and visually impaired.
At CLC@SJSB we have seen our students demonstrate their orientation to their classroom and to travel independently from the school entrance to their classroom. We have seem them increase their ability to use sensory information and skills such as trailing and upper body protection. Students have used their canes successfully to identify and avoid obstacles and surface changes. In addition, these skills have been integrated in a variety of prevocational activities as well as other activities of daily living thereby increasing their independence.
Here are some pictures of the parade we had to celebrate the day!
