EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM
St. Joseph’s School for the Blind is pleased to announce the extended school year program for the summer of 2007 that will be offered for 30 days during the months of July and August. (More details to follow later in the year.) A limited number of Monday through Friday residential placements will also be available at our Concordia House facility.
The extended school year program includes:
- Certified Teachers of the Blind & Partially Sighted/Teachers
of the Handicapped
- State Approved Orientation and Mobility Instructors
- Teacher Assistants in each classroom
- Programming based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum for Students
with Severe Disabilities and the students’ IEPs in the content
areas of Math, Language Arts Literacy, Cross-Content Workshop Indicators,
Health and Physical Education, and Visual and Performing Arts
- Recreation and Leisure activities
- Independent Living Skills provided to students participating in
the residential option
- Integrative and some individual Related Services including Speech,
Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy
- Nursing Services
- Assistive and Adaptive Technology
- Community Integration Activities
The cost for participation in the 2007 extended school year program will be determined in late January but does not include transportation to and from the program. Residential fees are additional and likewise do not include transportation. However, choosing the residential option reduces transportation fees from 40 trips per student to 10 trips per student for the program’s duration. Services beyond those listed
above, e.g., a one-to-one aide, additional therapies, would be the additional
responsibility of the sending district.
